Backlight bleed like you describe is awful imo. A lot of 22" panels have had that problem, so swapping it out may not improve things much.

I don't think back-light bleed has much to do with what panel type is being used. If I were going to purchase a 22" wide-screen, I would go for the Iiyama E2201W-B1, which has had excellent reviews.
