How to get better at choosing your hand in mahjong: 1. Grab your bag of tiles. 2. Deal yourself 13 tiles. 3. Get organized and choose a section of your card that makes sense. 4. Do a mock Charleston with your tile bag. 5. After each pass, try to refine within your section to find the hands that work best for the tiles you have. #mahjong #mahjongtiles #southernsparrowmahjong #mahj #mahjongtips #grandmillennial #chinoiserie #nmjl | Southern Sparrow

Full width version is up on our youtube channel if you prefer! One of the most common questions I get about how to play mahjong is how to choose a line (or hand) on the NMJL card. If you’ve ever felt stuck staring at the card after the deal, this video is for you. My approach is simple: don’t commit to a line right away. Instead of choosing a specific hand immediately after the deal, I start by choosing a section of the card that fits the tiles I’ve been given. Mahjong is all about pattern recog

Sometimes having too many Jokers and Flowers on the deal can make it even harder to choose a hand in mahjong—it’s almost too much of a good thing! Run through this practice hand with me and then try doing this yourself at home to get better at choosing a mahjong line in your next game! The full video is over on our YouTube channel, where you can see all of the Charleston passes and the final hand I chose. It’s also wide screen so you can see the tiles better. #mahjong #mahjongtiles #southernspar

Let’s get fast at picking a hand in mahjong! In this video, I’m doing my favorite practice for picking hands—a mock Charleston. Grab your tiles and your card and deal yourself 13 tiles, then practice passes and try to find a section then hand of the card that works for your tiles. This deal we ended up in the evens section and then got some matching dragons. We also practiced a blind pass. Watch the full length video over on our YouTube channel, where you can find all kinds of strategy videos fo

How to Choose a Hand in Mahjong: Here is a way to practice choosing a mahjong line/hand from home. 1. Take your bag of tiles and deal yourself 13 out of the bag. 2. Organize your tiles by suit and in number order. 3. Start looking for patterns in the tiles you were “dealt.” 4. Select a SECTION of the card, not a hand! Choose the section that matches with the patterns you’re seeing in the tiles you have. 5. Collect tiles towards that SECTION as you do a pretend Charleston, passing three tiles at

In this new series, we are talking through the question and answer section from the 2026 National Mah Jongg League newsletter. I think these questions are super helpful to go through each year because they tend to be questions that are very frequently asked or very specific in clarifying rules. As a visual learner, I always think it’s helpful to see these questions and answers in action so that’s what we’ll be doing in these next five videos. I’m also sharing some great resources for improving

! #albanie #nice #2008 #faitdivers
